Seventh in a set of "atmospheric pictures" for varied combinations of solo woodwind and keyboard. A transcription of my Lied "Komm, o Tod, von Nacht umgeben" ("Come, O Death, shrouded in night") [Comendador Escriva; transl. Emanuel Geibel] for alto flute and piano. A suave melody in the alto flute, underpinned nearly constant syncopation in the piano, soon takes a more tenebrous turn, reaching a climax with the alto flute's statement of the Lutheran chorale "Aus tiefer Noth schrei ich zu dir". The painting in the video is "Death and the Woodcutter" by Jean-Francois Millet. You will find the full engraved score at this link.
