Fughetta for Violin, Viola, Violoncello, and Bass Guitar in C♯ Enigmatic [Philip Daniel; 2017]

A four-voice fughetta on two subjects in the C♯ Ascending Enigmatic mode. This striking mode, the discovery of which many attribute to Giuseppe Verdi, consists of the following intervals: semitone, augmented second, tone, tone, tone, semitone, semitone. Here, a piercing subject characterized by wide dissonant leaps and syncopation enters in stretto, conveying maximum tension and instability without descending from order into disorder.
