Oh! Darling (Song of Rastak Band) | I Admire the Authenticity Effort!

This song is one of the most famous folk songs of Southern Iran and I’ve heard different versions of it, performed with other singers, but the version that Rastak Band performs is very joyful, refreshing, and colorful!

I really admire Rastak's efforts to create originality and attention to local features in this song.

Towards the end of the song, we even see some musical instruments that are unusual even in traditional music, and surely the members of Rastak have found these musical instruments through research.

They even included Kel cheering of women in their music (“ululation” which is the sound women make in weddings and joyous events as a sign of happiness), and is somewhat unusual but has been necessary to preserve the authenticity of this old folk song.

Rastak Band

Song: Ey Yar (Oh! Darling)

Lyrics

(Oh! Darling) (Oh! Darling) run towards me

Dear darling! Run to me right now!

O you who have a gazelle neck!

I am in love with you

Your place is empty, run now

I’ll wait for my beloved

My heart is restless

Behind the columns

My heart is bleeding

Yambu Sala (Greeting To Goodness)

Behind Rumi's garden (a place where people used to get water),

next to a water pipe

They gave me your home address,

I came and you are still asleep

Oh! Darling Song of Rastak Band | I Admire the Authenticity Effort!

My friend has come from a trip, and I am unaware

How hot is the port air?

Its climate is hotter than the height of a Kaper (a kind of desert tree in southern Iran)

My darling!

Cope with the hot weather of the port!

If you wouldn’t!

I will send you to Shiraz (a city with good weather in the center of Iran)
