Most of the people of the crypto community consider bitcoin as “Digital Gold” and Litecoin as “Digital Silver”. Both the cryptocurrencies have many similar properties; both use UTXO based transactions and both use proof of work for consensus. Both the coins have similar codebase as Litecoin was a mere fork of the Bitcoin. The major difference between the two is the transaction confirmation time. Bitcoin takes on an average of 10 minutes to confirm a transaction, whereas Litecoin takes just 2.5 minutes.
But for a cryptocurrency investor, which of both is a better investment?
Given the huge community and hype around Bitcoin, people may think Bitcoin a better investment than Litecoin. But let's analyze their returns quantitatively before concluding.
On analyzing the returns for the last 5 years, one can see that LTC has been performing better in terms of the percentage returns. So a $1000 invested in early 2015 would have yielded 167.5 times the amount invested in Litecoin and 168 times the amount invested in Bitcoin as 13th Jan 2020. But if one includes the transaction fee involved, Litecoin would fare much better. So based on 5 years data , it is safe to assume that Litecoin is as good investment as Bitcoin if not a better option for Hodlers irrespective of halving and bitcoin maximalist.
