So, today I watched the second episode of the new series hoping it to be as good as the first one but unfortunately, it was a bit disappointing.
The episode can be segmented into four parts:
1) Chris Harris reviews the McLaren SpeedTail.
2) Part one of the off-roader challenge
3) A start in a reasonably fast car
4) Part two of the off-roader challenge.
Now, I think that the first part was the best, the McLaren was exquisite, unique and insanely fast. It accelerates faster than a Bugatti Chiron. Imagine this kind of speed!
I think Top Gear is either sending a message to their old hosts as in this episode they mentioned that in a past series Richard Hammond raced a fighter jet and lost so now, they wanted to try and race an F35 Fighter Jet against the Mclaren SpeedTail.
This F35 was no joke, even with Paddy and Chris designing a layout where there is corners so that the plane would lose time, it still didn't stop it from winning. Because this fine piece of engineering has a staggering speed that can reach 1200mph.
Moving along, Paddy made fun of the new Land Rover Discovery that it looks weird and costs around $90 000. To be honest, I totally agree with him. Even my dad didn't like how the Discovery looks especially with those strange tire rims similar to a lego.
Given the massive price of the new Land Rover, Paddy decided to make he's own off-roader with only $9 000. He showed up with a Rascal fitted with Daihatsu diesel engine, and at the back of it, shall I say a small lounge where you can watch, drink coffee and eat candies.
At this moment neither Chris or Freddie believed in what Paddy came up with so they had other off-roaders in mind to challenge the Rascal. Chris chose a Dacia Duster and Freddie a Suzuki Jimny.
To test the cars' strengths and off-road capabilities, the producers formed a track filled with holes, mud, high water levels. The Dacia and the Suzuki successfully completed the course while the Rascal fumbled in the waters.
To be fair, I skipped the whole interview with the famous guy as I don't know even the slightest thing about him or what he does.
In the second part of the off-roader challenge, the Rascal faced a group of soldiers. The target was to reach extraction vehicles waiting for them 20Km away from their starting point. But, of course it's not that easy. For the Rascal, it had to cross a river and the soldiers faced steep hills. In short, the soldiers won with Freddie, so what Paddy came up with was not really effective but I'll give him that it was really cheap.
In conclusion, this episode started great and ended up average, fast then slow, promising then disappointing. Although it was a bit fun, but not enough.
