The good liar (2019)

Hello everyone, about five days ago I watched an odd movie. Starring Helen Mirren as Betty McLeish and Ian McKellen as Roy Courtnay. Two of the finest English actors. For the majority, I don't think they will ever watch this movie because if they just looked at the cover. Two old people, won't seem that interesting. Given that my mother likes Helen and my father wanted to watch a newly released movie, we agreed on this movie.
Betty is a retired professor, she taught at Oxford University, has only one grandson. Getting older with no one by her side, she turns to an online dating website. This is where she meets with Roy. Roy is a con man, he makes a living by leading people to make certain investments, then later he transfers the money to his account.
To get to know each other even more, they went on a date, both of them used fake names. You would expect something like this from Roy but it was weird from Betty. Later on, Roy started acting that his kneecap is hurting. All of this to manipulate Betty into inviting him to stay over at her place. It was a success, Betty invited him over until he was able to rest. At this time her grandchild was getting angry because Roy was sort of taking his place. One time Betty was giving Roy a haircut and suddenly fell on the ground. Her diagnosis was that she must start to pay attention to her living style and she must rest. Days go by, both Betty and Roy decided to go on a vacation to Berlin. When they got there, Roy is surprised that Betty's grandchild is with them. He starts showing around the city until they went to a certain apartment where Roy had an awful experience. And here we know that Roy isn't actually Roy. He was a German policeman or soldier who took the identity of Roy Courtnay when he was killed during a confrontation with a suspect. Despite all this, Betty was angry with how her grandchild talked to Roy and kicked him out. Back from the vacation, Roy introduces his accountant to Betty and they start to convince her to join Roy on a business venture where they can double their money in five years. After a while, Betty was finally ready to combine her assets with Roy. Here we still don't know what is about to happen, but what do we know for sure is that Roy is going to steal this money from Betty and disappear.
The last twenty minutes of the movie is what made it sweet. After both of them transferred the money into a joint account. Each one had a bank tablet that allows them to transfer this money to where they like. Roy made an excuse that he had to leave to go to see his son in the city. Betty accompanies him to the train station, and Roy is on his way to his son. When he arrives at his apartment, celebrating that he conned Betty. He reaches his bag for the tablet and he experienced the shock of his life, the tablet wasn't there. He tried contacting the bank but they would at least need two days to get him a new tablet, and by that time he knew that everything will be gone. So, he made his way back to Betty's house to see the whole house empty and just Betty sitting on a single sofa. Betty starts to threaten Roy that for each lie he makes, she will transfer 50 000 pounds from the joint account to her's. Not understanding what's happening to him, he plays the innocent but that didn't get him anywhere because Betty knew who he was all along. She was the mastermind behind all of this. Here is where everything is revealed. Roy, as I said before, was a German who taught Betty English lessons. One day he saw her sisters dancing and one of them invited him to dance with her to train for an event. Not able to control his hormones he kissed one of the sisters and when rejected he ripped her dress. Right till this moment nobody saw anything, so he normally proceeded to teach Betty. Betty told him that she loved him but his answer was rather weird, he said: "I am fond of you". Hanz, the real name of Roy, raped Betty. While he was leaving he was confronted by the parents and kicked out of this job. To retaliate Hanz went on to make accusations on her father which led him to be executed, her mother not able to comprehend the situation took her own life. Back in 2009, Roy is explaining that he didn't mean for this and that to happen. Step by step, Betty revealed her whole plan. Roy was absolutely in awe, speechless, didn't see any of this coming. Someone outsmarted him, was a good liar not like him.
The length Betty went to avenge her parents and herself is unbelievable, she planned even the small details like a painting, the way the house was decorated and so on. After these events, Roy lost all his mind and was sent to a retirement home and we saw that he wasn't able to interact with anyone. While Betty is enjoying her life with her big family. To be honest, it was a very slow movie, no action at all until the end when Roy tried to wrestle Betty, it was more funny than serious. Two old people literally fighting. But I like these kinds of movies where there are revenge and mastermind plan.
