Stillness in Action

By Blangs | Morning Thoughts | 28 Aug 2020

Rejoice and give thanks!  For all things have been created by the Lord!

As each day passes during this strange time in life, I find myself restless and uneasy.  My legs bounce uncontrollably, I'm constantly glancing at the clock.  Where am I trying to go?  What am I trying to do?  My body fights with every fiber against being still.

I think somewhere along the line I convinced myself that unless some sort of action is being taken, I'm not actually doing anything about the situation.  Of course the biggest fallacy in that logic:  I am the source of action that is necessary for change.

There's a bunch to unpack in that tiny little statement.  I am the source.  Interesting.  Knowing that God within us is the source, not us is important.  I am the action.  As if the action can only be done by me.  As if my importance is so high that no one, not even God can perpetuate the motion without me.  I know what is necessary.  Come on.  If I honestly knew, I'd be at peace right?  It's the validation of our belief and assumption that we seek when we say things are "necessary" according to man.  I demand change.  Because we have decided to declare our decrees and edicts of how things "should" be, (and as we buck the will of God for our own, and that perspective is based out of love for everyone and not personal selfish desire.)

Instead of complaining and cursing, instead of actively chasing malice and spice, I choose to be still in my faith and my Lord.  When every fiber of your being screams our to hurt someone who has hurt you, remember:  we are but a shadow of the Lord.  Pray for those that would do you harm.  For if we cannot pray for those in the world that would do others harm, who will?

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Proverbs 4:23 NIV
