There are things I don’t enjoy writing about, things that I wish were not true. Yet as easy as it is for most people to simply ignore what it’s inconvenient, it is impossible for me to look away. The world is behaving in an alarmly irrational way, one that seems escalating day by day.
Today I came across this particular piece of content
In which we can see a high member of the Australian government, in fact re-defining what Anti-Vaxxer means. Before COVID 19, the word used to be reserved only to describe a marginally small group of people who believed all vaccines were dangerous. They were considered to be “Conspiracy Theorists” (another word that is starting to change in meaning) and it was supposed to be used as a signal for ordinary people to ignore the “crazy” ones.
Well, after the release of the COVID 19 vaccines, several people (including members and experts in the medical and scientific community) shared some concerns. Mainly the issue was that they had to be rushed and deployed without the regular amount of testing that they would otherwise have. Once regular people started repeating this same concerns they were labeled “Anti-Vaxxer”, and put in the same category as the “crazy ones”. Note that the vast majority of the new “Anti-Vaxxers” were in fact in support of 99.99% of vaccines, and their only issue was with the new ones being released without enough testing.
So their concern was not even with the substance itself, but rather with the way they were being rushed.
This is where I first started noting the change in the definition of the term, but it doesn’t end there. The definition of Anti-Vaxxer has now officially been expanded to mean: “Those who are in any way, shape or form against the idea of MANDATORY vaccination, even if they themselves are fully vaccinated”.
Yes, unfortunately this is the state of the world today. You can be fully vaccinated, thinking that they do provide overall health benefits, but if you don’t support the government mandating it to everyone you are now in fact an “Anti-Vaxxer”, you belong in the same group as the crazy people. Needless to say I believe this is complete madness. They even say that providing moral support to those who don’t want to get vaccinated is being an “Anti-Vaxx” as well.
So, technically, even though I took the vaccine I am one of them, since I genuinely dislike the government forcing medical procedures on people. My mother, who likes the mandates but still understands and provides support for those who don’t want to do it, she is one as well.
This is extremely dangerous, and it is creating rifts in people’s relationships. We are being turned against each other. Something I believe it’s not accidental. Orwell warned us about all this in one of my favorite books: 1984. In it he described how big brother intentionally misused words. The minister of Peace was in charge of waging war. The ministry of truth dealt with censorship. And most devastating of all, the ministry of love, was in charge of torturing people.
Of course, things are not that bad. Yet the trend is set, I don’t believe this political and clever way of misusing words as weapons to brand the discerning part of the population will stop anytime soon. In fact the trend can already be tracked and goes only in one direction.
And hey, even if you really dislike all the “Anti-Vaxxer” folk, we can still acknowledge that governments doing this can lead to really dark scenarios.
I was talking with my girlfriend and her mother about this, both were not willing to even have the conversation, I understand, it is not a pleasant one. I think, nonetheless that it’s a crucial one. They both said, -There is nothing we can do-
I disagree. writing this is my way of doing something, will it accomplish much? Most likely not, but we all need to do something.
I just want to leave with a very famous quote from MARTIN NIEMÖLLER:
“First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”
I’m not happy writing this article. If I don’t speak out in some way however, I might just lose my mind, I know I’m not alone in seeing this. I hope even those who don’t agree can step on our shoes for a little bit, more than ever we need to seek to understand each other. Division and fighting amongst ourselves won’t accomplish much.
I feel duty bound by my inner moral compass to say things as I see them, honesty above everything else, all the rest will then follow.
Have an amazing Day!
