Whether mathematics is something man has invented, or if it is something we discover, has been a debate for centuries. I find this to be strange, as the answer seems so obvious to me that there should be nothing to debate. The semantics of mathematics are there already, long before we described them, and they work regardless if we formalize them into human readable language or not. We may invent the language to describe mathematics, but what we describe with a formula is a truth that was already there when we began.

Eugene Wigner’s famous observation about the "unreasonable effectiveness of mathematics in the natural sciences" highlights that abstract mathematical concepts like imaginary numbers or non-Euclidean geometry often find unexpected applications in physics and technology. This again shows that the connection was already there, before we made the necessary discoveries to see how the Universe we live in is adhering to mathematical principles.

Modern computer proofs like the four-color theorem and simulations like modeling gravitational waves with general relativity rely on mathematical truths that hold independently of the algorithms used to verify them. This suggests mathematics exists as a discovered foundation, not a product of the code.

Mathematics is consistent and harmoneous across all fields, which again indicates that we are observing an underlying pre-existing truth with it.

Also, different civilizations have arrived at the same mathematical principals independently, which wouldn't be expected if mathematics is something we invent. And in cases where there have been cultural differences, like for example wheter zero is a number, there turned out to be a definite truth, and culture had to cave. Yes, zero is a number. The philosphers in India were right, the ancient philosophers of the West were wrong. And that there is something universal to be wrong about, again, shows that mathematics is an external truth that we discover.

Mathematics consists of objective truths that exist independently of the human mind. One plus one has always equalled two, and it always will, regardless if there are humans around to think about it as such or not.
