Carcassone is a fortified City in France it is about 90 km from Toulouse. It takes just over an hour to get their from Toulouse. It is well worth the visit if you are in the area.

In July and August It can get very bizzy and it is allays best to arrive early. Entry is free but, parking is charged. In 2021 you could park for 30 minutes for free, then it is €1 for each 15 minutes upto two hours after that it is 50c for 45 minutes. 

Carcassone has had a settlement from around 3500 BC. The Romans fortified the hilltop around 100 BC. Further fortifications were built over the years. But, now it is mostly a tourist attraction. Most tourists stop for a visit on the way to Spain. 

In the summer it can get crowded.

The streets are interesting.

Lots of souvenir shops can be found if you are looking for a something.

Walking around the ramparts is like stepping back in time.
