Any Good News in Comptroller's Comments?

By SupportiveNormie | MinuteReads | 6 Dec 2020

Acting Comptroller of the Currency, Brian Brooks, was interviewed on CNBC (video below) about recent comments concerning regulation "self hosted" crypto wallet. Brooks made a few points about the overall climate of Bitcoin as it related to US regulations and the increasing adoption in traditional financial institutions. Long story short, I didn't hear a single promising remark.

"Nobody is going to ban Bitcoin," is a bit irrelevant, because they can't kill it anyway. What the treasury can do is tax and regulate everyday crypto holders until it isn't worthwhile to be involved in crypto. I also believe we probably have wildly different opinions on what counts as "good news" that would we could be hearing soon.

The reasons cited for increased regulation (money laundering, cartels, etc.) are bogus, and an incoming Biden administration will certainly cozy up to establishment financial institutions. Hopefully I'm wrong, but I don't think I'll hold my breath.

Moving your coins away from exchanges, finding user friendly non-KYC wallets and cold storage, and educating yourself on regulations are more important now than ever.
