You will instantly thing about the hedgehog speedster when you hear "Sonic", but this time we will talk about the Fantom blockchain rebranding and upgrades! The transition to a more optimized framework will be beneficial because it significantly enhances transaction speeds and reduces costs, making the network more efficient and user-friendly.
This improvement attracts developers and users, fostering greater adoption and innovation within the ecosystem. Additionally, the scalability of the blockchain supports a growing range of decentralized applications, which can thrive in a fast-paced environment. Overall, these advancements position Fantom as a competitive player in the blockchain space, ultimately benefiting the entire community.
After the transition, Sonic will become an EVM layer-1 blockchain with 10000 TPS, sub-second finality, a secure gateway to Ethereum, and attractive developer incentives. Let's dive into what's yet to come!
How's this blockchain update affect the users? The transition from $FTM to $S is part of migration as rebranding, and there's big alpha about an airdrop for Fantom OG, $FTM holders and Sonic testnet users. The same routine with points, which is not the best way to encourage active participation!
Sonic has a set of arcade games which you can play every day in order to earn arcade points, and this ones may lead to a multiplier or something. It may also be just a way to battle-test the chain, and the players will end up disappointed!
There are three free Play2Earn Points games in the Soinc Arcade: Plinko, Mines and The Wheel. My favorite is Plinko, where I set the play count to 10 to finish my 20 chances quicker. The points are slowly accumulating, while the $TOKEN is maintained to the same values.
What's $TOKEN? The Arcade's free currency which users need to request before playing for the first time. They can be spent on playing each game twenty times per day, or a total of sixty times across the three games.
Higher wins come with lower chances, so the best way to grind points will be at the lowest risk settings. This slow and steady style could bring above 50 arcade points a day.
The Sonic Arcade also has a decent referral system, with 10% points bonus from what your frens' will earn by playing. Go spread the word and decide if you want to chase another potential airdrop. I will play Plinko now and then, but will not commit to a daily hustle.
If you don't fancy games, maybe you want to use the testnet as it is developed. New Dapps will be introduced as we go along, but so far you can only claim $CORAL and $SONIC from the faucet (https://testnet.soniclabs.com/account)
Both tokens can be requested within a maximum of 5 claims per day, in any combination. You can swap $CORAL for $DIAMOND in the same UI, and wait for new things to be deployed. Please note that the Sonic testnet is a testing playground aimed to showcase the network capabilities. That means the data stored on the network will be deleted eventually.
I don't have big positive vibes about Sonic, but this is probably because there are too many layer2 chains already in the Ethereum ecosystem. Maybe I still have some unresolved issues with Fantom, after I was directly affected by the hack they suffered.
I still have a bag of $FTM, but I took them out from BethoveenX and sent them to Crypto.Com for passive farming. I've done lots of transactions on Fantom between 2021 and 2022, when CRE8R DAO was bossing the marketing space, and hopefully that will be considered if/when the $S airdrop will happen. If you're still holding $FTM, you will be able to swap it in a one-to-one ratio once the Sonic mainnet goes live.
