The Ink Foundation is gearing up to launch $INK, a purpose-built token designed to align users, protocols, and builders across the entire Ink ecosystem. It’s not just another token; it’s a coordinated effort to power a vibrant DeFi landscape built on shared incentives and long-term vision.
The $INK token will play a foundational role in unifying activity across lending, trading, and capital coordination — with a future focused on user-owned governance and sustainable value creation.
With a fixed supply of 1 billion INK tokens that will be minted and permanently capped, there is no possibility of inflation or changes via governance. Minting details are still to come, but the direction is clear in favor of a fair, transparent, and forward-looking vision.
Notably, INK won’t influence governance of the Ink Layer-2 itself. That structure remains aligned with the Optimism Superchain and will stay untouched. INK is meant to support the broader ecosystem, not alter the underlying Layer-2 mechanics.
The first real-world use case for INK will center around a liquidity protocol powered by Aave, a foundational layer in Ink’s evolving DeFi stack. This protocol will unlock concentrated liquidity, incentive-driven participation, and governance primitives for the next wave of builders and users.
To reward early adopters, INK will be distributed through a targeted airdrop to users of the liquidity protocol. Sybil resistance will be prioritized to preserve fairness and prevent farming abuse, with industry-best standards in place.
Token distribution will be handled by a wholly owned subsidiary of the Ink Foundation, with further airdrops and mechanics to be revealed in due course. All official information on $INK will be shared exclusively through their official accounts!
