The central bank of Japan is investigating how a digital currency can help to strengthen more conventional payment systems.
Kazushige Kamiyama, head of the payment systems division of the Bank of Japan (BOJ), said the digital yen must be accepted by the public in order to become a reality. This was disclosed yesterday in a Bloomberg article.
He added that the central bank of the country must first ensure that a future digital yen is able to coexist with cash and other electronic payment methods. The transaction ecosystem must also strengthen it. These are prerequisites for launching the digital currency of the Bank of Japan (BOJ).
