I'm not going to suggest that this is a reliable self-improvement method, but I've realized that it works for me. My eyesight has improved dramatically since I've started this practice, and just today I noticed further eyesight improvement - for what that's worth. To me, it's nice. I'm thinking way more cost-effective and way less invasive than Lasik surgery.
You are an organism. In your experience you strive to improve your situation, circumstance, and mental (reasoning, expression, and elucidation) capacities. You sustained a number of injuries that have already resulted in so many numerous deaths that it's not reasonable even to consider it or them. However, the understanding that your organism possesses in its relation to its environment differs from that of the understanding of the organism possessed by your intellect. In other words your corpus exists multi-dimensionally. Your mind has access to the dimension within your capability, but corpus has further dimensional access. Corpus propounds knowledge to intellect from any data through the body it operates. Indefinitude datricies influence reasoning and elucidation capacities. Insofar as your intellect responds with acknowledgement and validation of data propounded from your organic knowledge's influence, the nexuses of such datricies reveal opportunities toward verisimilitude. (We can stop here, but I'll keep going because I'm pedantic as fuck. I have to be to tease this out.)
Imprisoned will is freedom; free will is prison. Temporarily (ok, this is probably true for me all the time, but let's just pretend it's not true for anyone who enjoys their free will - which I also enjoy, though I'm fascinated with this form of self-improvement because I really injured my head quite a lot when I was young). I called this state of doing nothing (or close to it) "pre-active stasis" last year, and someone I talked to about it today liked that term, so let's go with it. In other words, only temporarily attempt to reduce expression so as to expose the areas of the brain that have been injured. That way they can be identified and recalibrated toward focusing verisimilitude. Such focus will also, when recalibrated appropriately, calibrate expression toward its similarly focusing verisimilitude.
You'll arrive at who you are when you are who you are, which, as any corpus exists with respect to each of the collections of liminal spatial dimensions we call time, is always has should have been. I know that reads ridiculously. The orientation of that copula is describable as [なりべしけれれど] (naribeshikereredo) since we haven't yet recognized that copular orientation in English. I'm not sure English speakers will reach an active consensus necessary to achieve that linguistic orientation within any rational length of time so eventually I may need to code switch within this blog to the various early Japanese structures [circa 600-1400 A.D.] from time to time (and, later on, Ainu).
If self-improvement were linear (or, omniprescient iteration of knowledge):
1. Identify perturbulescent datrix (i.e., what don't you like about yourself - go for the smallest thing you can find; getting a note wrong while playing piano, for example; scope is irrelevant)
2. Allow organism to identify knowledge basis upon corpus. It tends to be in the neck, if knowledge had propounded through speech; as an organism trying to understand everything it encounters but does not even understand the language it produces, try to imagine it trying to follow its orders; eventually, it knows, but at first it must learn; it's possible to teach the body to respond to its multi-dimensional corporeal structure by rote toward focusing verisimilitude. I've done so to some extent; however, the greater the nuance of conceptual data that corpus propounds to the body the greater the sensation of improvement. That realization I came to today was a fundamental shift in how I understand my mental capacities to iterate; intensely helpful.
2a (example). Today I went to the lake to swim and identified a nuance to prudence that I hadn't previously considered. After my body metabolized this nuance into its understanding of what "prudence" is, I gained greater awareness of the connections that such new data provided. Such awareness "grants" (as I experience it) access to experiential data, whether or not the body, or even corpus, have sustained it, which I could choose to understand through expression or otherwise.
2b. This practice, therefore, compels aspects of the 'consciousnesses' of other of your dimensional corporeal structures (ahem) to the body so that its intellectual capacities may recognize them and amalgamate them into realizable knowledge bases that you may use (use them if you're bored).
3. Propound knowledge** through touch, speech, as your organism would (nexus of knowledge may realize outside of the body; see below).
4. In my experience, the sensation of recalibration so as to repurpose my injured corpus has been painful, but not unendurable in the least. It's the corpus, and not solely the body that repairs. Occasionally, it feels as though I'm having carpal tunnel surgery, as I would imagine the sensation to be; maybe my veins, arteries, nerves, or whatever are shifting to their most relaxed position - which means a little tightness temporarily to get there. I tend to feel that as recalibration occurs the (bacteria* in the) body (that have) metabolized the nuance of my request that it received from the "overtones" (for lack of a better word) emanating from the knowledge basis of its validating co-location. Knowledge exists on corpus as much as it does in suggestion. As awareness of nuance increases, requests become further nuanced toward verisimilitude and recalibrated (and calibrating) experience. See 2b.
5. Relax; sleep. Qi-gwo taxes the body. Consider it fifth-dimensional surgery. It feels as though that's just what it is.
6. Whether you like it or not (you will), Qi-gwo practice beautifies corpus. Corpus can recalibrate to its optimal state by regurgitating its knowledge basis, whether through thought, speech, activity, or patterned behavior. Gratuity nexus lies directly above corpus' head, between forefingers. Use that instead of gratuitous conduct (including self-harm and gratitude [use appreciation instead]) to purge contempt.
7. Knowledge of perturbulescence super-corporally corporally may consciously perturb. (I'm writing this so specifically so as to avoid what I'm talking about so that [perhaps?] only I understand it; sorry.) Identification of knowledge nexuses propounded therethrough result in disallegorating datricies that may be allegorized through experience or knowledge, corporeally or otherwise.
*Bacteria colonized in corpus are corpus, just as people who live on the Earth are the Earth, whether recognizing as such or not. Human intellect is a series of propounded hallucinations of an organism's (not even solely a human's, as it so happens - learned that one today) insular organic realizable surroundings. All surroundings are realizable.*** Realizability evolves an organic structure from sapien to oraculen, as you're already aware. Therefrom, obviously, is further verisimilitude.

***Creation is perfect linguistically. As linguistics may improve so may creation. (Interesting to have reached the understanding to propound this in English finally; it's been sitting there in my understanding for, well, let's just say a long time.
