The linked article is a good example of the type of brainwashing that we are all subjected to. If you live in Canada/America, your first reaction after reading this article will probably be to chuckle:
- 'How could she not believe the words of her own daughter?'
- 'Silly Russians, so brainwashed.'
Unfortunately, you are human, that means you are not perfect. Odds are there is at least one topic for which you are playing the role of the proverbial Russian mother.
Don't feel bad about it, like I said; you are human. However, what you should feel bad about is if you hold firm to your believe/worldview which has no basis in reality, especially when someone who loves or cares for you is presenting you with irrefutable facts.
Disinformation agents are really good at developing narratives that are designed to short circuit your logic. Your only hope to defeat them is to learn about it and accept criticism from people you trust.
Think about recent events in Canada and America, such as the Freedom Convoy. What type of information did you find yourself dismissing? Did you find yourself thinking 'it was only a few people who were assaulting Ottawa citizens walking around in masks.' Or, 'people are just being dramatic, it's just a protest.' If you did, that's ok. But now that you are listening, take it from me, someone you can trust; you should re-examine your trusted information sources.
