On my small balcony i grow some Chili, Herbs and for the diversity there's a wild mix of flowers and even a little maple tree and some ivy climbing all over the railings. Good thing about most of the bugs crawling around here is, they feed on lice, especially the lady bugs / Coccinellidae and their larvae, so no chemicals needed to protect the plants.
