If you're reading these lines then you already know that there are endless amazing opportunities in crypto. Roughly thirteen years in and the space is expanding at a high pace. Many argue that the 100x days are long gone, but even if that's the case, it's still quite easy to earn money on autopilot thanks to the revolution called DeFi.

Everybody loves a nice bull run without a doubt, but the truth is we no longer need violent movements and crazy spikes to go big. There are many ways to generate passive income streams in crypto, and compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. Persistence and patience go a long way, and it all starts to snowball quite fast with the juicy APRs offered pretty much everywhere.

Call me a shill, but in my opinion crypto is money on steroids and DeFi is crypto on steroids. Smart contracts were brought to the spotlight by the Ethereum blockchain and laid the groundwork for the creation of financial instruments that do not need intermediaries. 2017 was another spectacular year for crypto. Great things were about to happen once again.

The interesting thing about 2017 is the fact that everybody was too busy celebrating the insane market pump. Smart contract functionality was overlooked by the crypto masses and it's reasonable. It's not like the world was paying attention in early 2009 when Bitcoin came into existence anyway. Only a few knew about the new, cool kid on the block.

Unfortunately I was too much of a noob back then and it took me a while before I started venturing into the DeFi realm. I could have joined MakerDAO and started earning more magic internet tokens on autopilot right away, but you know, this wasn't the first time I was sleeping on the news. As a matter of fact, I was so busy working on my Master's Thesis at the time that I stood no chance.

After all, there's just so much going on in the space that it's literally impossible not to miss out on some great opportunities even if you do remain wired 24/7. You just can't be everywhere.

Fast forward to 2022 and a large part of my portfolio is locked in smart contracts earning yield. Yes, this is a risky move but I'm comfortable enough with the choices I've made. The space is full of scams and traps, but this could never be an argument against crypto. Scammers always follow the money and have been around since before crypto was even a thing. Crypto is a neutral tool, as is the case with all great things.

Almost 5 years of producing and consuming crypto-oriented content has provided me with the tools necessary to navigate through the madness and know what to ignore and stay away from, and Hive has played a major part in this. The knowledge I have gained throughout my years around here is much more valuable than the crypto rewards I've bagged - which are not minuscule by any means.

It is thanks to this knowledge that I'm now earning yield like all over the place. Stablecoin pools on BSC and Polygon are my thing of choice, but I couldn't stay away from the CUB Kingdom on CubFinance or the xPOLYCUB vault on PolyCUB. Crypto rewards are flowing in 24/7 and compounding yield is a serious addiction I can't seem to drop.

I've also been pooling RUNE asymmetrically on Thorswap for five months now and it's been a blast. I found out about this gem back in 2020 thanks to some cool @leofinance folks, and have been adding a few native RUNE tokens to my stack here and there since then. However, it wasn't until October 2021 that I decided to put my RUNE to work.

I chose the ETH pool as my aim was to provide liquidity asymmetrically. Ethereum is here to stay, and there's a reason why people are still willing to pay insane fees to use the Ethereum network. The big switch to PoS this summer will only attract even more active users, push the price of ETH to new highs, and allow me to exit the pool with even more RUNE.

The truth is I've kept 30% of my native RUNE in liquid form in order to take advantage of a potential spike, and it's great to see the token performing as of late. The THOR airdrop is regaining value as well, and THOR seems to be following the market movement of RUNE. Both assets are long term plays for me and I will wait for triple digit numbers before I take profit.

When it comes to revolutionary projects, there's a common denominator: patience is key. Holding beats trading provided that you give it time, and it is easier to follow this principle when you've seen it all play out before. It's all about realizing what the biggest problems are in the space and what we can do to tackle them. This is the exact same thought process that gave birth to the ideas which led to the creation of Bitcoin in the first place.
