It's now official, Civil has ended its project. If you did not know Civil I will give you a little summary of what the project consisted of.
Civil was created in 2016 and wanted to set up a fact checking platform. The newsrooms could have, in exchange for tokens, deposit their information on a dedicated platform. Their goal was to develop a more ethical journalism. The project had attracted many investors and many big names in journalism such as Forbes and Associated Press.
Despite all this, the CEO of the start-up, Matthew Iles, officially ended the project for lack of funding. I quote :
It's with a heavy heart that I announce the end of Civil.
The employees and assets of the start-up were redirected to ConsenSys (led by Joseph Lubin who is also the co-founder of Ethereum that you all know with Vitalik Buterin).
However, it seems that this is not the end of their idea. Indeed, there are other start-ups working on the same kind of project. We can quote for example Wiztrust which also offers a fact-checking service but not only dedicated to the press.
At a time of all the "Fake News" that can be found on the Internet as Donald Trump says so well, it would have been a shame that such an interesting project sank into oblivion. Don't you think ?
