As the global social distancing attempt is in full effect and the long days drone on, large amounts of people have resigned themselves to only their home. The only time when it is possibly thinkable to place their feet outside is when the toilet paper throne requires another super market visit. But this behaviour is not only furthering the boredom and paranoia of the masses, it is also somewhat counterproductive.
The human immune system is a master at what it does. Protecting us from attackers from the insides and outsides every second, seven days a week. But the immune system is not impervious to failure and a strong virus or bacterial infection can sometimes break through. As the Covid pandemic is sweeping the world what could we regard as more important than a well functioning resistance to disease?
But a large aspect of maintaining a healthy immune system is in maintaining ones overall health. And so, how is that maintained? Well, one of the most important factors is exercise. In general a normal adult should strive for 150 minutes of moderate exercise, where brisk walking or biking are good examples, to remain healthy. But in these times, as many choose to stay at home, people don't go out and move about enough. Not only is that temporarily bad for their health, it also weakens their resistance to the very disease that they are afraid of.
So what am I proposing? Simple, go out and walk for twenty or thirty minutes, heck why not an hour if you've got the time. It will strengthen your health, immune system included, and perhaps it will brighten your mood and give you a slight dose of optimism. Besides, many of those who are at home have time to spare, and what better way of spending that time than self improvement.
So what are you waiting for go out, experience the spring weather, better your health and fight the corona virus.
