Lipa became the last Villa (City) of the Spanish government during its rule in the Philippines on Oct 21 1887 when Queen Regent Maria Christina of Spain recognized Lipa as the richest municipality in the country for its coffee industry. It was also the first municipality elevated to being a city. Being a witness of previous wars and invasions, Lipa City is rich in cultural heritage that can be seen throughout the City.
