Bard, an artificial intelligence (AI) model developed by Google, has been updated by its makers to its latest version, Gemini Pro. Google just made Gemini Pro available for users in Europe.

Gemini Pro is a monster of a model. It’s a multimodal, large model. it’s designed to understand and be efficient at combining different types of information like text, code, audio, image, and video.

Google is aiming to take on OpenAI’s popular conversational AI, ChatGPT with Gemini, which has a dedicated section on its presentation page regarding its performance on various capability tests in reasoning, image understanding, and coding.

The Gemini Pro, however, is the most versatile while the Gemini Ultra is the largest model suited for more complex tasks and the Nano is the best suited for on-device work.

The CEO of Google, Sundar Pichai announced the release of Gemini, “our most robust and capable language model yet”, in December 2023.

Google has launched products a little late on the European market before. Google Pay was introduced in the United States in 2018 but its release was delayed until 2020 in Europe following concerns over antitrust issues and compliance with EU regulations concerning the delivery of payment services.

Imposed in 2018, the EU has implemented strict data privacy regulations like the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which has very strict rules to follow about how personal data may be collected, used, and or stored.

Additionally, Meta delayed the introduction of Threads, its photo-sharing app, in Europe in 2021 amid the ambiguity around provisions in the Digital Markets Act.

Many of the bloc’s 27 member states are currently in talks around a proposed AI Act, which, after much discussion, contains several provisions that are designed to protect users from the potential abuses of artificial intelligence.

More AI tools have been made available to the public since the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022. Various companies have joined in this race, each with their own spin.
