According to an internal memo and audio recording reviewed by the Times, Sundar Pichai the CEO of Google’s parent company Alphabet has directed teams to focus on building out AI products.
As part of the directive, Google has tapped its research Trust and Safety division to assist in the development and launch of new AI prototypes and products. This includes AI products that generate art and graphics similar to OpenAI’s DALL-E. The development of these AI products is part of Google’s move to build out its AI product portfolio and take on ChatGPT which amassed over 1 million users within five days.
ChatGPT is a conversational AI chatbot that can generate singular answers to queries in a conversational human-like way. It synthesizes information from millions of websites but the bot is often riddled with errors, as it can’t distinguish between a verified fact and misinformation.
