ClamAV is a free anti-virus mainly for Linux, but can also be for Windows.

I use it on Linux never expecting ClamAV to find any problem in my Linux files, though, there may start to be some since Linux's popularity is growing. Whenever I run ClamAV, it finds files infected in my Windows program files that I run with PlayOnLinux  on my Linux OS. It never finds any Viruses designed to infect my Linux OS. On Linux, you can schedule a daily, weekly, or monthly scan. I don't know if you can schedule a scan on Windows without the Windows Scheduler. It may be a little involved to schedule a daily, weekly, or monthly scan on Windows, I don't know. The main purpose of ClamAV is integration with Linux mail servers.
