The Ferris Wheel Ride: Rediscovering My Inner Child at Dhaka Shishu Park

By Taherul Islam | light-of- Bangladesh | 31 Jul 2025

Last Friday, on a spontaneous whim, I visited Dhaka Shishu Park—the beloved children’s amusement park in the heart of the city. Though childhood has long passed, a part of me still holds on to those carefree days. And that day, I decided to let that inner child breathe again.

As I entered the park, I watched the little ones laughing and playing with pure joy. Then suddenly, my eyes landed on the towering Ferris wheel. A rush of memories hit me. That was once my dream ride. I remembered how I first rode it holding my father's hand, my heart pounding with excitement.

Without a second thought, I bought a ticket and stood in line. People gave me curious looks—maybe wondering why a grown man was so excited about a children’s ride. But I didn’t care. I was ready to relive a moment from my childhood.

Finally, I got on. As the wheel began to turn, slowly lifting me off the ground, a strange feeling of thrill mixed with calmness took over. The city below started shrinking, people looked like little toys, and a gentle breeze brushed against my face. One side of the view showed the bustling roads, and the other side opened to green patches—it felt like I was floating between two worlds.

As we reached the top, I felt a lightness, almost like flying. And then the sudden descent made my stomach drop—that delightful little fear, just like when I was a kid. I couldn’t help but let out a joyful scream. The kids next to me laughed, and I laughed with them.

Every spin of that Ferris wheel reminded me that life too goes up and down. And just like this ride, we need to enjoy both the rise and the fall.

When I got off, I felt... different. Lighter. Happier. For those few minutes, I wasn’t an adult worrying about responsibilities—I was just a child, enjoying the simple joy of a ride.
That ride was more than entertainment—it was a moment of connection, with my memories, my emotions, and my forgotten innocence.

Finally Thoughts:

If you ever visit Dhaka Shishu Park, don’t skip the Ferris wheel. You might just rediscover a part of yourself you thought was lost.
Because sometimes, all we need is a ride that lifts us up, both in the sky and in spirit.
