On Sunday evening, a strong smell of alcohol began to float around the building at the Chalakkuda bus station in Triśura. The next day brown alcohol-like liquid flowed from taps in the kitchens and bathrooms.

Residents were not delighted with the surprise, which - as it turned out - was the excise office. Officials poured illegal alcohol into a pit dug near a shallow well. - At four in the morning on Monday, our neighbors who have school children woke us up saying that the water from the taps smells bad. Mother was cooking for children when she noticed the stinking water - told the news portal The News Minute Joshy Malliyekkal, the owner of the building.

Soon 18 families confirmed that alcohol flows from the tap in their apartments. Malliyekkal called the city authorities, who quickly found guilty. - Next to our building was Rachana's Bar. Six years ago, the authorities closed him down and the warehouse was sealed. Now the department has completed formalities related to the disposal of alcohol and officials have poured the drink into a dug pit that was in our yard - explained Malliyekkal.

Six thousand were poured into the pit liters of alcohol

Six thousand were poured into the pit liters of alcohol that contaminated the shallow well. TK Sanu, deputy commissioner of the excise office, told The New Indian Express that officials did not realize that there was a shallow well nearby. - If we are to get rid of a large amount of alcohol, we usually use options such as distilleries. But here there were only 2 thousand. bottles, so it was decided to dig a pit - explained TK Sanu. By the time the water quality in the well improves, 18 families living in this building must draw water from substituted water carts. The closed bar owner pays for the water.

In 2015, Kerala authorities closed bars selling alcohol. After two years, when consumption statistics did not fall and under pressure from the tourist lobby, regulations were relaxed. There are total prohibitions in four states and one dependent territory of India.
