This is one vigilante film everyone should check out. Y’all know The Equaliser and John Wick, so I won’t go there. Another one of my favourite films is NOBODY. It's easy to believe that apparently, this film shares a screenwriter and a director with John Wick.
Everyone knows the dismal 'feels' of churning SSDD. When life seems to pass you by, while going nowhere. Drifting endlessly, relentlessly sideways. Dreams are drained of hope, ever fading without ever getting nearer. Time takes its toll on the mind and body, giving nothing back, but aches and pains.
When life settles into a dreary, numbing grind, a predictable pattern, we often long for an inciting incident that would reawaken that intrepid hero, who slumbers within every one of us. We wish to be tested in an existential struggle against a worthy adversary and to prevail against daunting odds. For a chance to prove our mettle in a clash with Destiny’s challenge, so that our loved ones and society as a whole appreciates our moral fibre and no longer takes us for granted. Why do you think so many people prep for adventure, the zombie apocalypse, pandemics and other disasters?
This has been the endlessly-reheated, yet lukewarm lot of Hutch (Bob Odenkirk), an unremarkable, middle-aged average Joe, husbanding an aloof family and nursing a tepid marriage, like an old cup of coffee, in a beige, blasé suburbia. Everyday is the same—an underwhelming disappointment.
Hutch’s inciting incident comes in the form of a star-crossed encounter with an intoxicated brat from the Russian mob. This reawakens Hutch’s true nature and he rises like a terrible phoenix, shaking off the soul-tarnishing rust of his meaningless existence. As the saying goes: “don’t start nothing—won’t be nothing”. The mobsters didn’t listen and chose to learn the hard way that it’s best to let sleeping dogs lie.
