'Come Out Ye Black and Tans' rockets to Number One in Irish and UK iTunes charts

Sometimes I just love Irish people. In response to the now postponed commemoration of the RIC as mentioned in my last post here.

The arrogance and ignorance of politicians

A show of public influence, a song by the Wolfe Tones, " Come out Ye black and tans" from 1963 has been pushed to no1 in the iTunes charts. Not only just in Ireland but has now gone no1 in the UK charts as well.

Thankfully public pressure got there in the end and put a stop to what was a totally disrespectful commemoration and an insult to the Irish people.

This won't be forgotten.

A commemoration that the government tried to push through regardless of opposition from the majority of the country.

"Come Out, Ye Black and Tans" is an Irish rebel song referring to the Black and Tans, the British paramilitary police auxiliary force in Ireland during the 1920s. The lyrics are rich with references to the history of Irish nationalism and the activities of the British Army throughout the world. The song ties Irish nationalism to the struggles of other peoples against the British Empire across the world."

I was born on a Dublin street where the royal drums did beat,
And those loving English feet they tramped all over us,
And each and every night when me father came home tight
He'd invite the neighbors outside with this chorus:
Come out ye Black and Tans, come out and fight me like a man,
Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders,
Tell them how the IRA made you run like hell away
From the green and lovely lanes of Killashandra.
Come tell us how you slew them poor Arabs two by two,
Like the Zulus they had spears and bows and arrows,
How you bravely faced each one with your 16-pounder gun,
And you frightened them poor natives to their marrow.
Come out ye Black and Tans, come out and fight me like a man,
Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders,
Tell them how the IRA made you run like hell away
From the green and lovely lanes of Killashandra.
Come let us hear you tell how you slandered great Parnell,
When you thought him well and truly persecuted,
Where are the sneers and jeers that you bravely let us hear
When our heroes of '16 were executed?
Come out ye Black and Tans, come out and fight me like a man,
Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders,
Tell them how the IRA made you run like hell away
From the green and lovely lanes of Killashandra.
Well the day is coming fast and the time is here at last,
When each yeoman will be cut aside before us,
And if there be a need, sure me kids would sing, "Godspeed, "
With a verse or two of Stephen Behan's chorus:
Come out ye Black and Tans, come out and fight me like a man,
Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders,
Tell them how the IRA made you run like hell away
From the green and lovely lanes of Killashandra.

Photos showing the remains of brothers Patrick (29) & Harry (22) Loughnane from Shanaglish, Galway. The RIC abducted and tortured them with beatings and by chopping their fingers off. After shooting them their bodies were set on fire and grenades exploded in their mouths

Just one of many examples of the atrocities they committed.
