Dear Friends,

Why is personal change so difficult for many people?

This is in contrary to popular belief that the reason is not a lack of willpower.

The real reason lies in the mismatch between the change we attempt to make and the identity we hold for ourselves.

The mistake of focusing solely on behavior

Many people wishing to change their lives start by trying to alter external behaviors:

They adopt new habits.
They buy new tools.
They set rigorous goals.
They establish strict routines.

While these are considered very commendable efforts, yet they rarely yield long-term success.
They address only the external symptoms of the problem, not its root cause at all.
If a new habit conflicts with our internal self-image, our subconscious mind naturally resists it.

Consequently:

We start with enthusiasm for a few days.
Then, we revert to our old ways.
We try again and again.
We fail again and again.
This cycle continues endlessly.

Our general belief about who we are becomes the "operating system" of our lives.

For instance:
"I don't know how to manage money properly."
"I am quite lazy."
"I cannot stay organized."
"I am someone who can't stick to anything."

If such identities are imprinted in our minds, our actions will align with them.

Even if we consciously desire change, this deep-seated identity will recreate the old behavior.

Those who succeed in achieving their goals are the ones who first change the answer to the question "Who am I?" rather than focusing on "What am I doing?"

For example:

Instead of thinking, "I am trying to quit smoking,"

Identifying oneself as a "non-smoker" - that naturally transforms the behavior.

But, when the behavior aligns with identity and sustaining action does not necessarily require for immense willpower.

The lasting change does not come merely from our altering external habits.

It begins with changing the internal story we tell ourselves about who we are.

Often, we cling tightly to an identity we have cultivated over many years.

Yet, for all our life to move forward, there it comes a moment when we must let go of that old narrative.

The new opportunities, new responsibilities, and a new life—all of these demand the mindset to embrace a new identity.

Transforming one's life is not simply being about working harder.

What really matters is pausing to examine the stories that we persistently believe about ourselves.

So, with these in mind, let us completely refocus ourselves!
