The million-dollar question, right?
As you probably suspect, there’s no one right answer to this question as every user makes a different amount. However, with this post, I’m going to attempt to explain my views and takes on the matter, stemming entirely from my personal experience.
Here, we will only discuss making money through publishing, as that’s the only thing I’ve actually done so far.
However, you can also make money by reading and tipping authors and by referring new people to the platform.
Making Money as a Publisher
I’m not going to beat around the bush - this is where the honey’s hidden. Publishers arguably make the most money on Publish0x, and rightly so. They create content, they bring value, they entertain their audience.
The concept is particularly simple - write engaging content and if your audience likes it, they have the opportunity to give you a tip.
Let me give you an example. I was reading an article on Chainlink and how Blockchain Services Network will be using its oracle service. At the bottom of the article, there’s this box that allows you to tip the author. This is how it looks like:
You can easily adjust the tipping ratio based on your own preferences. The logical thing to do is to increase the tip when you feel the article brought higher value and vice-versa.
Once you tip the author, you will see the asset distribution. It looks like this:
So, the author of this article, LiquidAttic, just received 0.0396 BAT, while I got 0.0099 BAT. In other words, he received $0.0013, while I got $0.00032 in Basic Attention Tokens.
Now, it’s also worth noting that not everyone will tip you with this ratio so the results may vary. Some people might decide to give the entire tip to you, while others might reduce it to a minimum to increase their earnings. I personally find that selfish and ungrateful, but it is what it is.
$0.0013 might not seem like a lot. And it’s not. However, this is the tip of one single reader. I haven’t been publishing on Publish0x for long, but I’ve found the platform to be a perfect publication medium.
According to SimilarWeb, Publish0x received a total of 1.13 million visits in May.
It’s not a lot, but it’s more than formidable. The platform is relatively new but still, over 1 million monthly users is a good achievement, suggesting that it has PLENTY of room to grow, which I’m confident it will.
I haven’t been publishing here a lot (something that I regret and intend to change) but a couple of my posts were fairly successful, at least from my perspective.
As you can see, How I Turned $100 to $1500 And Lost it All in Under 48 Hours Trading Bitcoin and Altcoins is my most successful story and it got just shy of 7300 views. From that, I made $7.70 given the current BAT/HYDRO/DAI/LRC rates.
The other article I did - If Bitcoin Reaches $1 Million This Means it Failed, Here’s Why, got 4538 views and collected $6.41 in tips.
In other words, for those two articles, I’ve collected $14.11 for roughly 12,000 views, giving us a ratio of over $1/1000 views. For me, that’s more than acceptable.
I’d say that if your content is of sufficient quality and you identify an interesting niche that you can truly bring value in, this is a more than a reasonable earning ratio. Of course, you can’t compare it to what you’d make if you worked as a journalist or a copywriter, but, hey, it’s people tipping you for the quality of your work and you’re doing it on your own free time.
Moreover, you receive a platform where you’re free to express whatever you want, without having a bunch of editors sitting on your head, basically dictating your narrative.
For starters, I’d say that earning up to $100 / month is more than reasonable if you produce a moderate amount of articles that are of high quality and are engaging.
This is only going to increase
Keep in mind that you are bound to make more as you keep on posting. You will gradually build a following of people who are interested in what you have to say.
The more you write, the more people will be inclined to tip you. That’s how psychology works - we want to reward people who spend time and effort into delivering something that makes our lives easier. In this case - quality content.
Your followers are much more likely to tip a higher amount compared to people who just stumbled upon your publication.
With those two posts alone (and a few more which weren’t as successful), I’ve already got almost 200 people who follow me. I can’t express how rewarding this feels on its own. It’s also a tremendous motivator.
It’s perfect if you are a crypto geek
The other thing to consider is that people tip you in cryptocurrency. Those of you who were here before 2017, much like myself, know how explosive their prices can be.
To me, Publish0x is a great way to increase my exposure to crypto without risking anything. Instead - it’s rewarding my free time. I’m building a community and I’m increasing my stack and all that by doing what I love - writing.
Regular Writing Contests
Another great thing about Publish0x is that there are regular writing contests. Every now and then (usually about once a month), there is a contest that will provide extra incentives.
For example, the last one (which I missed, unfortunately) was supported by Atomic Wallet and it distributed $375 in prizes (the winner received $80 in DAI), which is pretty cool!
Final thoughts
To wrap it up, I believe that you can reasonably make around $100 worth of the selected cryptocurrencies by writing on Publish0x.
The platform is very comprehensive and easy to use and the community is splendid, at least from my experience.
All you have to do is write quality content and make it interesting for your readers! I’ll be giving some tips and tricks on how to engage your audience soon.
