If you're very lucky, your life is a constellation of moments to look forward to.
If you're unlucky, your life is a sequence of things you fear and can't face.
But for most people, it's somewhere in between.
Most people have things they don't wanna do - meetings, tough 1-2-1s with bosses or clients, appointments, bills that must be paid on location, adding stress and time-wasting to an already unpleasant experience - you name it.
But they also have things they do wanna do. Things to look forward to.
Dates, spending time with family, friends, your kids. Trips. It could even be the delivery of your favourite pair of sneakers you ordered online.
For as long as I can remember, I've tried hard to make sure I've got something to look forward to.
Today, tonight, tomorrow, next weekend, next week, next month. Six months from now.
Six months is probably my maximum. Any more than that and it'll be feel too distant.
But it works.
The other day I was a bit down - not sad, just bored and lacking motivation - and then I thought, "tomorrow I get to wear a new cool jacket I bought and travel to ***** to meet *****."
And that immediately gave me a boost of energy.
Simple. Maybe cheesy. But it works.
Whatever works.
