SJW ideology isn't popular. Less than a third of the US identifies as Feminist, and Free Speech consistently polls well. So why on Earth are SJWs able to censor so many people?
For example, SJWs consistently get to shut down Conservative or "controversial" speakers at Colleges. They have been able to pressure YouTube into demonetizing pretty much anybody who is an anti-SJW (thanks to Publish0x, Steemit and other new social media sites for providing an alternative by the way), and SJWs are frequently able to get anybody they want fired. They get corporations and hobbiest organizations to change their policies despite the fact that SJWs are often not actually engaged with the products those corporations/hobbies involve.
This post is meant to create discussion, but here are some ideas that I have come up with to explain why they are so effective.

Those who believe their own outrage are incredibly motivated to push their agenda. If you are really offended by something, you'll probably work to try to change it. Those who show up to fight win.

They have a high rate of participation. AKA they are a very vocal minority. Related to the above.

Sympathy for women. Many SJWs are female, and most people have sympathy for women who are upset by something. It is probably a part of human nature.

They organize very well. There are tons of feminist and SJW websites out there that help organize them around certain talking points and causes.

Corporations are cowards and will not fight back. They don't want the bad publicity.
