It is trite to point out that people these days seem to be offended by literally everything. This includes an assignment given to 1st Graders in Kentucky where they had to identify what pictures went with various simple words. Unfortunately for the teacher, they made the mistake of acknowledging that fat people exist, and associating the word "fat" with them.
I thought that fat people in the Fat Acceptance Movement were reclaiming the word fat? Shouldn't they be happy with this assignment because it acknowledges them and places no value judgement at all on being fat? Guess there isn't any real logic to be found here!

For what it's worth, no parent actually filed a formal complaint about this. One just ran to the media because she wanted to get attention.
Take a wild guess what the parent who decided to run to the media looks like:

I wonder if she realizes that she is actually hurting the fat acceptance movement by doing this? I mean, she is confirming pretty much every negative stereotype of spoiled fat people. Clearly she just doesn't want to face her own problems and reacts to people doing anything that might remind her of self-improvement by throwing a tantrum.
I don't want kids to harass other kids, but the problem there is lazy teachers not noticing or taking action to control kids, it's not that the kids know basic words. School must prepare kids to interact in the real world, including knowing what basic words mean. I never thought that would be controversial. Now we can only hope that parents write in to the county school board to defend common sense over PC culture run amok.
