Dear Friends,
It is a company I really like—good business, good management.
But just because the business is good, does that mean you can buy the stock at any time? Not at all; that’s not how it works.
I waited nearly four and a half years before finally buying shares in that company today.
How long, exactly?
Not four days, forty days, or four months.
4.5 years!!
Even though the business itself was solid, I held off on buying the stock due to factors like overvaluation, business headwinds, and a slowdown in growth, waiting for the situation to stabilize.
Only now have the headwinds normalized, and the business begun to recover from those issues.
People today expect a stock to yield returns the very next day after purchase.
But companies operate in the real world; things don't change overnight!!
Most people fail to understand this.
Long-term investing isn't just about buying a stock and holding it for 40 years.
- When should you buy a stock?
- How long should you wait?
- When should you sell?
You need to know all of this.
That is what long-term investing is all about!!
I notice something every day at the walking ground.
If someone is walking ahead of others, those behind them often speed up, trying to overtake them.
Once they’ve overtaken the person, their pace naturally slows down after a short distance.
If I sense someone trying to overtake me while I’m walking, I simply step aside and let them pass.
I might deliberately move to the side, pretending to look at something on my phone; I let them go ahead before I resume walking at my own pace.
My mindset is that walking is meant for relaxation. I have no desire to turn it into a competition.
It’s the same in life, too. I am not in competition with anyone. I do not concern myself with what others are doing.
My only competition is myself. I must be better this year than I was last year.
I must be better next year than I am this year.
That is my goal.
Happy Investing Friends!
