GameDevTalk #1: a Play to Earn Game on Google App Scripts!?

Lag.Monster Play to earn game

🚨 Yo, listen up, fam! If you’re easily triggered, you might wanna bounce — there’s some cheap shills in this script šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø. But here’s the deal: I cooked up a game using G.A.S. and our AI homies.

Back in the day, I was all about that game designer life. My fave was Ultima Online, and I begged my rents for that PC that looked like a cow. You know what I’m talking about! šŸ„šŸ’»

First, I was messing with those floppy disks — remember those frisbees? Then I dabbled in BASIC, and once I hit C++, I switched my major to film. Crazy, right? Then I got yanked from school for two years to do internet security during the war on terror. But I’ve always maintained a soft spot for online browser game sites like ā€œCoffeebreakā€ and ā€œNetropolis.ā€

Fast forward, I launched a biz in a totally different field and built it up enough to retire and cash out on Bitcoin when it dipped. šŸ’° After that, I was like, ā€œLet’s make a game!ā€ So I downloaded Unity. Got circles moving around squares in an empty polygon world. Total snooze fest — took me 156 hours to realize this was trash. Online tutorials were like, ā€œIf you can’t code in Unity, maybe don’t code a game.ā€ Nah, I’m not backing down! Other vids suggested starting simpler.

Welcome to text gaming in the browser my dudes (and dudettes)! Big space for competition, so I had to niche it up. Tried the casino route and got my sites banned (one bad domain, and poof — all domains gone). Now they’re up for sale. Whatever! I got a new domain and started working on the gameplay loop. Think classic ā€œget this, get rewarded, and try again.ā€ I’ve been messing with digital assets too, but those usually flop. Let’s mash it all up and see what sticks!

**Game Features:**

- Lore inspired by classic sci-fi flicks (or lack thereof)
- A cookie-clicker vibe (but like, not advanced)
- Leaderboards for the competitive types
- Player prizes and rewards
- Fast loading UI (at least I hope)
- A UI that’s kind of questionable
- Two ad banners (because why not?)
- An exciting sci-fi story with today’s buzzword: "a.i."!
- And trust me, I’m learning to be firm with my AI so it doesn’t mess with my writing.

Oh, and the whole thing runs on Google App Script. It’s the best free "data holder" option for testing. Gotta bounce for a meeting, but I’ll drop some lore from the game ā€œLag.Monsterā€ soon but for now here’s a sneak peek:

---

**Excerpt from ā€œLag.Monsterā€:**
"Survivors… time is slipping through our fingers like sand in this relentless void. I write to you from the shadows of our encampment, where darkness swallows hope. The faint hum of our PDAs is our only reminder that we’re still here, still fighting."

---

I’ll be using the OX to chat about game dev, toss out tips, and maybe turn readers into players. Is the game basic? Yeah, but it’s 100% free! Haven’t cracked the code for microtransactions yet — the holy grail of gaming. Like a regular job, I’m starting strong but finishing weak, so I’ll need my buddies and you guys to help with the lore.

Catch you later, either here or out in the wild, later survivors! āœŒļø
