Michael Saylor reveals he used ChatGPT to create a model of Strategy's preferred stock and earn $15 billion.

“I used AI to generate $15 billion last year. I used AI to generate $15 billion in a way that nobody would have imagined possible,” said Saylor.

Michael Saylor, founder of Strategy, claims to have used OpenAI's ChatGPT to earn $15 billion in the last year. The revelation was made in a conversation with The Diary of a CEO channel, published this Wednesday (4).

In short, Strategy had already pushed its two main fundraising methods to the limit: issuing common stock and issuing debt securities convertible into shares. Therefore, the company used AI to develop its four preferred stock options and continue its business.

Although STRC remained relatively stable in its first year of trading, the stock fell to $71.25 in June. After Strategy sold bitcoins to repurchase STRC shares and pay dividends , the stock rebounded and today trades in the $94.5 range, its highest price in the last 50 days.

Strategy founder explains how he used ChatGPT to earn $15 billion.

In the nearly 1 hour and 40 minute conversation, Michael Saylor discussed various market topics. A highlight was his commentary on how he used ChatGPT to help Strategy buy more bitcoins.

"I'll give you an example. I used AI to generate $15 billion last year. I used AI to generate $15 billion in a way that nobody would have imagined possible."

Explaining, Saylor comments that Strategy held $30 billion in Bitcoin, but they wanted more capital to buy even more Bitcoin after exhausting traditional market fundraising methods.

“We needed to invent a new type of security, a new credit instrument that would allow us to raise funds to buy more Bitcoin. I turned to AI. I started exploring how to design a preferred stock. I thought I wanted to create an asset that wasn't a regular stock and wasn't a debt security either. I wanted something hybrid between the two. So we used AI to design a convertible preferred stock called STRK. At the time, no one had ever created a preferred stock backed by Bitcoin. It was a combination of financial engineering, digital asset engineering, legal work, and capital markets legislation.”

Seeking the opinion of lawyers and bankers, they all told Saylor that no one had ever done that before and that he shouldn't either.

However, since Strategy's growth would stall if they didn't find a new solution, they decided to proceed with the plan.

In short, Saylor explains that the idea was to create something similar to a market fund, where people receive income without having to worry about volatility.

“To do this, it was necessary to vary the dividend rate. If you want to keep the price stable, you need to adjust the dividend. So, we created an instrument whose dividend rate could be changed every month. Had anyone ever done this before? No. In all of history, no one had ever created a preferred stock with variable dividends. Was it illegal? No. So why hadn't anyone done it before? Because no one had a reason to. They never thought about it. We asked the AI: “Can we do this?” It replied: “Of course you can. Just do this, this, and that. If someone doesn't like it, do it this other way.””

In July, Saylor introduced four preferred shares to the market: STRF, STRC, STRK, and STRD. STRC, described above, ended up gaining more traction than the others due to its $100 peg and monthly dividend payment model.

When asked about the AI model used, Saylor says he used OpenAI's ChatGPT.

Saylor had previously explained that he used AI to develop his company's strategy.

Michael Saylor, however, had already made this revelation in May 2025. At that time, the billionaire stated that AI doesn't always deliver something he can use immediately, but it does 80% to 95% of the work, which is then passed on to the company's finance and legal teams.

As STRC has fallen below $100 in recent months, some in the community have used this to mock Strategy on social media, suggesting that people shouldn't trust AI.

However, with Strategy's recent Bitcoin sales and STRC buybacks, the stock has been recovering in recent weeks and is now trading near $100. Given Saylor's explanations in the two videos about the use of AI, it's possible he also used ChatGPT to make these new decisions.
