Quantum Computing and the Future of Crypto Security

By Kenzoo | Kanza Blog | 29 Aug 2025

Presently, quantum computers are transforming from dreams of science fiction into reality. Therefore, huge research efforts toward the making of these machines were underway with the tech companies and universities. If quantum computing becomes fully realized, it is going to change everything from data protection by banks to the actual security of crypto assets.

Today's digital systems employ encryption almost universally. For example, online banking, e-mailing, office documents, and even blockchain networks depend on algorithms that enjoy some mathematical impenetrability. The currency itself, such as Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash, uses elliptic curve cryptography to keep private keys private. Deriving a private key from a public key has usually been considered impossible. But with algorithms like Shor's Algorithm, a quantum computer could shatter these suppositions and do so much faster than a classical machine ever could.

In crypto are obvious, Any previously exhibited address by transactions could pose a risk. Public keys assumed to be safe might later turn out to be open doors for the recovery of the private key. Seed phrases are only safe in the first stages-the quantum threat only becomes real once a public key is exposed.

It is clear that the threat is not just beyond blockchain. In fact, it would extend to internet safety standards shaking email communications and office data storage. That's why institutions such as NIST in the United States are busy with the crafting of post-quantum cryptography standards. The digital scene is looking forward to a big shift towards new migrating security systems.

According to researchers, quantum computers would at least take 10-20 years before they could quaint really break the encryptions of today. But technology moves in hops-sometimes faster, sometimes slower. The path from here is preparing now, as any wise person would.

The end of cryptocurrency and digital security is not the quantum threat. In fact, it has reminded all that security cannot stay still while technology evolves, modern cryptography replaces its ancestors. The biggest difference, however, will be in the scale-completely from individual bank accounts to dollars measured in billions in blockchains, every individual and every institution will need to prepare for this quantum era.
