The 30 Inspiring Quotes That Got Me Writing My First Book

By Justino | An Angle of Truth | 3 Jul 2021

Who doesn't like a good quote to keep them going throughout the day? Like a wounded novelist bleeding words onto a page, here are 30 of the ones that help me through this pilgrimage called life:

  1. “There are two ways you can live life: One is when you believe everything that happens is a miracle. Two is when you believe not everything that happens is a miracle.” (Albert Einstein)
  2. “Let us make man in our own image and likeness and we will give them dominion over the earth.” (Genesis 1:26)
  3. “It is all too obvious that in the great majority of human beings, the greater part of their possibilities, whether physical or spiritual, intellectual or aesthetic remains unrealized.” (Sir Julian Huxley)
  4. “God does not play dice.’’ (Albert Einstein)
  5. “We are YHWH’s workmanship...” (Ephesians 2:10). The Greek word ‘workmanship’ means ‘poem’.
  6. “The more we let YHWH take us over, the more truly ourselves we become because He made us... It is when I turn to Christ, when I give up myself to His personality, that I first begin to have a real personality of my own.” (C.S. Lewis)
  7. “If the highest potential is the sum total of possibilities that exist within an individual...” (Dr. Wale Akinyemi), then the pursuit of happiness is the pursuit from within, the power within no doubt already placed there.
  8. “The more he gives to others, the more he possesses of his own.” (Lao-Tzu)
  9. “Find out what you love to do, and don’t settle.” (Steve Jobs)
  10. “It is fine to be zealous, provided the purpose is good.” (Galatians 4:18)
  11. “Test yourselves to make sure you are solid in your faith. Do not drift along taking everything for granted. Give yourselves a regular check-up. If you fail, do something about it.” (1 Corinthians 2:12)
  12. “I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency.” (Philippians 4:13)
  13. “Give us this day our daily bread…” This is from the prayer Christ gave to his disciples- what we know as the ‘Our Father’. Bread nourishes us with physical strength. When strength applies to other areas of life, the prayer encompasses the mental and emotional needs we need to face the world.
  14. “Do all you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as you ever can.” (John Wesley)
  15. “Failure is not when you fall, it is when you do not get back up.”
  16. “One man is no more than another is, if he does no more than another does.” (Cervantes, ‘Don Quixote’)
  17. “If you place a high value on what you stand for, then you will be willing to suffer for it.” (Aung San Suu Kyi)
  18. “It is in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for.” (Ephesians 1:11)
  19. “I came that you may have Life, and have it abundantly...” (Christ)
  20. “Fear is crippling and is not yet fully formed in Love.” (1 John 4:18)
  21. “Let YHWH transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind. Then you will know the will of YHWH, what is good and pleasing to Him and is perfect.” (Romans 12:2b)
  22. “Any despot can build a million houses. Nevertheless, to truly meet the needs of the people demands the involvement and empowerment of the people in the development process of communities which deepens and enriches democracy.” (Cyril Ramaphosa)
  23. “Learning without reflection is a waste; reflection without learning is dangerous.” (Confucius)
  24. “Be a cheerful giver.” (Somewhere in Scripture)
  25. “Our country is not inherited from our parents; it is borrowed from our children.” (A twenty-first century Romanian king)
  26. “[Hope is] that stubborn thing inside us insisting despite all the evidence to the contrary, that something awaits us so long as we have the courage to keep reaching, to keep working, to keep fighting.” (Barack Obama)
  27. “Well done is better than well said.” (Benjamin Franklin)
  28. “Failure is subjective; one man’s failure is another man’s opportunity to learn, to grow, to meaning.”
  29. “When the going does get tough, I need to know that some people have been where I am, driven further and succeeded. I need to know their roadblocks, stop signs, and junctions. I could either pay the full price of my experiences or enjoy learning the defaults from the successful.”
  30. “Jacob cut branches from poplar trees and some almond and evergreen trees. He peeled off part of the back and made the branches look spotted and speckled. Then he put the branches where the sheep and goats would see them while they were drinking from the water trough...he made sure they faced in the direction of the spotted ones. As a result, they gave birth to spotted and speckled young.” (Genesis 30:37-40). If a visionary technique worked on goats, how much more would it work if we create a vision board?
