Although the Lynx Desktop wallet has been around for quite some time, and Lynx mobile wallets even more so, the launch of the new LynxChain got me playing around with much more than I had previously done.  It really is a great wallet to use not only for LynxChain users, but also for other EOSIO chains as well.  This post then is intended as a brief introduction to the features of the wallet as well as some must know basics to get you on your way with whatever you decide to do with it.

The first thing you will need to do is download the wallet.  You can do that by either utilizing my referral link (https://create.lynxwallet.io/jimmyd) or going to https://www.lynxwallet.io/ and clicking on the Getting Started tab shown above.  For the purposes of this tutorial I will assume that you were kind enough to use my referral link for the information given so the screenshots will reflect this as such, but do note that if you opt to go through the official Lynx Wallet website instead that the process is pretty much the same.

Step 1: Enter your phone #

Step 2: Enter the verification code sent to you via SMS

Step 3: Follow the link to download the app on either your computer or smartphone

Depending upon the system that you are using will depend upon the next thing you see.  Regardless, download the app relevant for your system requirements and preferences.

In the case that you wish to download the app on multiple devices, please refer to the download tab on the Lynx homepage at https://lynxchain.io/

Likewise if you are looking at getting the wallet on your mobile device, you can find the app downloads by scrolling down the Lynx homepage and selecting your preferred system via the App Store of Google Play

Creating & Importing Accounts

At this time it is only possible to create a new account within the desktop for LynxChain.  Each person is capped at 3 accounts, the first of which will always be your primary account.  To create other accounts simply navigate to the ‘Create New’ tab under the ‘LynxChain Accounts’.

You will have to verify through phone number again and input the code, but the process will be just as simple if not more so than the initial account you created.

From here you will be prompted to add your user account name (between 4 and 12 characters in length) and informed as to whether or not it is available.  Please note that the first time you go through this process the account name selected will be your primary account which will allow you certain privileges over the secondary account names you choose such as the possibility to play certain games or interact with certain dapps, so best choose a name that you are comfortable with the rest of the world seeing.

Lynx Wallet also allows you to import accounts from EOS, WAX, TELOS, and BOS, as well as LynxChian and Jungle Test Net accounts.  This can be found in the ‘Import Account’ tab in the bottom left drop down menu as seen also in the image above.

Simply select the type of account you would like to import, insert the private key for that account and your Lynx Wallet pin number, and click ‘Import Account’

Backing up Your Private Keys & Updating Your Profile

It is very important that you backup your private keys.  If you don’t do this and you somehow loose your device or accidentally delete your account it will be lost forever.  You may also want to update your profile so that when you are interacting on present and future dapps such as Chirp people can see an image and name that you choose to show them.

You can do both of these by navigating to the dropdown menu on the bottom left beside your name (v) and click on ‘Account Settings’ followed by the associated ‘Export Private Key’ and ‘Edit Profile’ menu settings in the settings tab.

To Export your Private Key enter your 6 digit pin and click copy.  Make sure to copy and store it into a secure location preferably off your desktop or phone and into a password protected external hard drive or USB.

In the Edit Profile tab you can update your username and add a profile picture of your choosing.

Apps & User Interface on the Desktop

Within the Lynx wallet a variety of dApps are available across the supported chains.  Accessing these dApps is really easy and can be done by navigating to the associated page within the wallet interface.

Another nice feature is that the dApp your interested in does not appear on the wallet page you can run a search for the url and it will be pulled up right there within the wallet page.  The interface is really slick and looks as if you were directly viewing on a browser.

Add to that an apps page for every supported EOSIO supported chain and it is easy to see the potential with the simplicity of design with the Lynx Wallet.

Accessing Apps with the Mobile Lynx Wallet

Unlike the desktop, there is no direct link from within the mobile Lynx wallet at present in order to access dApps.  Instead you will need to visit the respective page for each chain to see what is available simply by connecting through the main Lynx site apps portal found in the menu of https://dapps.lynxwallet.io

Accessing a dapp through one of these pages will prompt the user to sign in with their Lynx wallet and grant access just as if you were within the wallet itself.  The nice thing is that everything looks exactly the same on the desktop whether being within the wallet or on the web browser – which let’s face it, for the first time user making a move from the site to within the wallet is a really smooth experience with no surprises.

Although at present it’s primarily the LynxChain and EOS dApp pages both within the desktop wallet and on the homepage that are filled out, I suspect it won’t be long before other chains will have more dApps linked for easy access both within the desktop and direct from your browser.

What’s Next?

Well, considering that this tutorial was beneficial and you now have a free LynxChain within your Lynx Wallet with the ability to interact with dApps on the LynxChain and other associated EOSIO chains, you may be wondering where to go from here.  As with anything in this life that is completely up to you – but for those of you looking for some suggestions here are a few.

Play around with the LynxChain and other EOSIO Apps

When you first register for your Lynx wallet you will notice that you have a balance of 0.  This is a very easy thing to solve as in the Apps tab there are at present two games (Mine Sweeper & Alien Invasion) allowing you to earn Lynx for free. Simply login with your Lynx account and enjoy these throwback games for a time earning yourself LNX tokens which will show up in your wallet balance.  Once you have accumulated 0.01 LNX or more you can also move on into the Chirp social app where you can post, comment, and like.  The app is in it’s infancy but the community is growing quickly and there are a lot of planned updates in regards to features planned in the very near future.  Please bear in mind that although it does cost 0.01 for any action on the platform, should you create content of value every like or comment on your post will reward you with 0.01 LNX tokens in return.

Bloks.io: Bloks.io is a utility allowing users to monitor account transactions, stake resources for other necessary EOSIO chains, and preform a variety of other functions.  From within the account interface of the LynxChain and other supported EOSIO chains users have the ability to view and connect their accounts.  Simply click the Bloks.io icon, login tab in the top right on the Bloks.io page, and Lynx option to login.

As a side note one of the features that actually surprised me was when logging into my LynxChain account via this method my profile picture set from within the wallet actually carried over right onto the explorer.

EOSIO Apps: As LynxChain is still relatively new users can experience far more in the way of exploring Apps within the EOS side of things provided they have imported an EOS account to the wallet.  There are a variety of applications already connected across a multitude of genres such as Casino & Lottery, Casual Games, Dice Games, Publishing, Sports Betting, Trading, Stable Coins, Trading, and more.  Depending upon the dApp will depend upon the next step as some dApps will automatically log you in and others will need you to click a login button.  Regardless while using the desktop or connecting through the affiliated https://dapps.lynxwallet.io/eos site on mobile it’s a pretty seamless transition into the world of EOSIO dApps of many different kinds.
