Yes, playing to earn in this game can be a grind, but is oh-so-real when that moolah hits.

  • You will get enough free UPX (the in-game currency) for signing up such that you can buy your first free metaverse property.
  • Strongly suggest you start in Detroit, you won't have enough for other cities, and if you are brand new there is a good chance you will be too slow and inexperienced to mint in the Rio expansion.
  • You will need to do some of your own research to make the decision that is best for you as to which city to start in.

Rio was released, in part about two weeks ago. The first international city in Upland, Rio de Janeiro sold out in two hours, bucking the trend of the two prior cities (Queens, and Las Vegas) which still, at the time of writing have not entirely minted out and will take some time.

Just a few hours ago, Upland announced the first portion of the Rio expansion. Actually, there were already two expansions post-launch, in two new neighborhoods, over the last week, but these were FSA-only neighborhoods designated for beginners to mint. One is entirely sold out, and the second one is almost sold out, with only relatively higher-priced beginner properties left to mint (if any).

From the announcement on the webpage:

The release that will happen Wednesday, in two days, at 12 noon New York City USA time, will include another 20,000 properties.

About 22% of the expansion release will be designated as FSA-beginner-only properties (though novice and advanced players can later buy these from the beginners). There will be more for Rio later, but this release will include properties in collection neighborhoods that have already been identified that will be highly targeted. 

The expansion release will cover 13 neighborhoods. Although some neighborhoods will have many more properties within their boundaries than others. Some of the neighborhoods will also likely have many more FSA-beginner designated properties. It is likely that non-collection areas and lower-income areas of Rio de Janeiro in the expansion will have more FSA properties than neighborhoods that are in collections, and the more affluent areas. 

The exact property lines for the expansion are not in place yet in-game, and will only likely be available to preview within a few hours of when the city-expansion proceeds. However, below I have provided a rough map with neighborhood names and references to help you plan where these are. Most everything is in the eastern portion of this map.
