The Bible Says That The Disciples Received The Holy Ghost On The Day Of Pentecost!!! Or Does It???

Acts 2:4 KJV

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 2:4 CJB

4 They were all filled with the Ruach HaKodesh and began to talk in different languages, as the Spirit enabled them to speak.

Ruach HaKodesh

Rûaħ or ruach, a Hebrew word meaning 'breath, spirit'

The prefix Ha is basically like our word the.

Kodesh, a word meaning sacred in Hebrew

So here's another example of something I was taught growing up that through reading the Bible I've found to be wrong. As I've stated many times in the past I was brought up Pentecostal and although I don't consider myself anything except for a born again Christian the church I attend now is a Nondenominational Pentecostal church. I was taught growing up that you have to have the Holy Ghost to go to heaven and the evidence of the Holy Ghost is speaking in tongues. So basically if you didn't speak in tongues and you die you're not going to heaven. Plain and simple that's what I was taught and that's what the church I grew up in is still teaching to this day. I never understood this because when people would come to the alter and repent of their sins they were saved even if they didn't speak in tongues. How could they be saved if they didn't have the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues. Whenever I would ask questions like what happens if I come to the alter repent of my sins but die on the way home without speaking in tongues I was told things like oh God wouldn't let that happen. He's in control of everything. To me this seemed to be a way to sidestep answering a serious question. Now the church I currently attend teaches a little different than that. They teach that to have the Holy Ghost you have to have the evidence of speaking in tongues but they teach that you do not have to have the Holy Ghost to go to Heaven. Now I'm not going to lie this teaching kind of rubs me the wrong way also because the Holy Ghost is God's mark or seal on you. I believe that you have to have the seal of God to go to Heaven( I'll be diving into this deeper in my next post). So where does that leave me with my beliefs? I believe that when you come to salvation you receive the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost all in your heart at the same time. It's a package deal. Now if you receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost you will speak in tongues and this will open up the gifts of the Holy Ghost to you. This doesn't mean that you automatically receive other gifts but it does make them accessible to you.

John 20:22 KJV

22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

John 20:22 CJB

22 Having said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Ruach HaKodesh!

I believe the disciples were the first people to ever be "saved" as we perceive it today and here John describes when they received the Holy Ghost right before Jesus's ascension. No where does John say they spoke in tongues when Jesus breathed on them.

(I actually wrote this post back in April of this year. I just recently signed back into to my account and I was reading over some of my unfinished stuff. Originally I planned to expand on some of my thoughts and ideas. I've been super busy this year and I'm not sure when I'll have time to start writing again. So I just decided to go ahead and post this as is with the hope that it may help someone)

I want to end by giving honor where honor is due. Thank you Abba Father for keeping your hand upon me and my life. Thank you Jesus for being my Lord and Savior and for dying on the cross so that I could have eternal life. Thank you Holy Spirit for giving me guidance, discipline, comfort, and for being so much more to me than just a tongue talker.

I want to start off by giving honor where honor is due. Thank you Abba Father for keeping your hand upon me and my life. Thank you Jesus for being my Lord and Savior and for laying down your life so that I could have eternal life. Thank you Holy Spirit for guidance, discipline, comfort, and for being so much more than just a tongue talker. I just want to share the gospel of JESUS CHRIST with everyone that I possibly can.
