When Jude goes to soccer practice, I generally head out to the mall to go do some grocery shopping so that we don't have to see the shops again until his next practice. So, I popped into a local home and decor shop, took a stroll around the store, as I do :) and as always they have really nice displays everywhere which are either promoting new stock or stuff they are wanting to clear out.
I have long since adopted the phrase "inspiration is everywhere when you open your mind" and I was taking note of the colour palettes - which is pretty much a habit of mine. There was a really nice display of goodies and the decadent looking colour combo really caught my eye, so I took a snap shop. All artists steal with their eyes, didn't you know :D

I decided to use the display as a little bit of inspiration! I don't often create with "black" as a base, and if I am honest - I had no intention of doing that originally. I was going to go with a dirty pink and then I thought I might make use of a very deep green or to go completely light, with a pale olive green or something like that, but when I was exploring the options as I was playing around, I quite liked the black - plus it was a little different to what I usually do.
If you look at the centre of the photo I shared from the decor shop, you will see the combination of the earthy greens, black and pink. Once I had added the black and then changed some of the foliage to a rich pink, almost burgundy... then I knew I was on a track I liked - so I carried on meandering in that general direction.
A few more hours of illustration and fiddling - adding a few little blooms and other little accents (because I love to go overboard when it comes to details as you know, lol) and then I was a happy camper! Introducing... Midnight Blush!
It is always wonderful to find inspiration unexpectedly and also to try something different! I really love how this particular piece turned out, but I think I might also do some variations of this one - making use of the originally intended lighter palette choices - I will see how it goes... What do you think?! If it sparks anyone's interest - Midnight Blush is now available in my Redbubble store on a variety of products - I have dropped just a couple below... but you can click on any one of the images to take a squizz at the rest!
