Let’s take a look at a new trend that has emerged on Iranian social media (especially Instagram). A very dangerous trend, and at the same time a highly eye-opening one for anyone who wants a real understanding of Iran’s current society.
It’s about ordinary people — the ones who go to work every day, the ones who are alive and oppose the Islamic Republic regime, yet cannot express their opposition in any way.
"Across Iran, a new type of video is spreading. People film themselves holding their purchases, state the price of what they've bought, and then dance. Four eggs and one sausage, 500 thousand Tomans. One soda and one bag of chips, 350 thousand Tomans. Six eggs and one can of tuna. Three small shopping bags for seven-and-a-half million Tomans; a figure close to half the monthly wage for a minimum-salary job. Each of them explains the reason for their smile. One of the men says: "I'm very happy because if I'm not happy, they'll execute me." Others say that otherwise, they'll be labeled as "rioters," "traitors," "mercenaries," or "Mossad agents." Officials of the Islamic Republic routinely accuse those who speak about the country's economic situation of "pessimism-mongering," and individuals have been arrested and tried on such charges."

Every time I try to suppress this inner need to write by telling myself things like “It’s useless!”, “It won’t change anything!”, “No one cares,” it doesn’t take long before I find myself involuntarily writing about it again.
Because writing is not only for them — it is also a way to calm a restless heart.
One could simply walk past this issue, but put simply: writing what is going on inside you and sharing it with others follows a path, like a roar that surges out from an angry ocean. Even if it doesn’t wet a single person, the sea no longer carries that roar — at least for a few moments.
