Armed with the knowledge of how to beat the casino, I made the hour-long drive to my local tribal casino. I walked into Sky River feeling confident—ready to take down the house.
Instead of walking straight to the first blackjack table I saw like a typical gambler, I took my time. I canvassed the floor, carefully auditing every game. I saw a sea of variations: Double Down Madness, Free Bet, Spanish 21, Single Deck, and Double Deck. While many of the tables offered the favorable 3:2payout for a natural blackjack, I kept my eyes peeled for the best entry point for my bankroll.
I settled on the 6-deck shoe with the lowest minimum bet. Before sitting, I lingered behind the table, watching the dealer’s rhythm and mentally counting every card that hit the felt. I had to head out, so I colored up and walked to the cage with my head high. I felt a surge of pride—I had finally learned a skill that actually worked. As I walked to my car, my mind was racing: Was this the start of something beautiful? Was I actually on my way to becoming a millionaire?
