“It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it. If you think about that, you’ll do things differently.”
- Warren Buffett
Integrity and respect matter. Do not conduct dishonest business or attempt to harm others. Even if you think you can get away with it or it's not a big deal, take the high road.
Reputation is the sum of your performance and commitment to your work and in your life. It's much more than your resume. Reputation is the first thing people think of when they hear your name. We all know people whose name carries negative weight
Building your reputation takes time and dedication. Echoing Mr. Buffett, you can build a solid reputation for years and then lose it in a single moment. Global brands including Coca Cola, Microsoft, McDonald's and Starbucks all have brand reputation that is worth millions and can be tarnished with a single piece of bad press. These multi-billion dollar companies depend on the reputation of their work, as do we all.
Regarding social media, reputation is more than just the number in your profile. To build your number, conduct yourself as you would anywhere else. Build a strong community and conduct yourself ethically and with hard work. Make 2019 a year where you build up your reputation by doing the right things. Focus on being moral, hard-working and blameless in the eyes of others.
How will you build your reputation this year?
