As part of the audit of the US social security system by the Department of Public Administration Efficiency (DOGE), a number of violations were identified for the purpose of uneconomical spending of funds.
One of them, the most significant, is the receipt of benefits for 3.2 million people over the age of 120.
"In the databases of the social Security administration, they were listed as living people and received benefits," the DOGE agency reported on the social network X.
In February 2025, Elon Musk drew attention to the age of Americans receiving social benefits. According to his published graph, in the United States, more than 4 million citizens were over 100 years old. Elon Musk called the US social security system the largest fraud in history.
At the end of February, US President Donald Trump announced that millions of US taxpayer dollars were being spent on payments to people whose age in official records exceeds 200 years: "There are people over 130, 140 and even 150 years old in the social security system. We have a man who, according to the records, is 360 years old — an absolute record! Our country has existed for only 250 years, and he turned out to be older than America," Trump said.
"Over the past two weeks, the Social Security Administration has conducted a large-scale inspection and cleaning of its databases. About 3.2 million account holders, all aged 120+, are now marked as deceased. There is still a lot of work to be done," the message says.
It is noted that this is not the end of the work with databases. DODGE said that about 9 million more residents aged 120-159 years are on the lists of the US social security service.
It is reported that the US government has already started saving almost a billion dollars a day thanks to Musk.
This is undoubtedly a great merit of DOGE in terms of efficiency, targeted use and distribution of funds from the state treasury. This will help to significantly reduce government costs. Over the years, many billions of US taxpayers' dollars have gone under this scheme.
