Lazlo Hanesh, who is known for buying pizza for 10,000 BTC in 2010, said that in may of the same year, he developed a mechanism for mining bitcoins using video cards, and even wrote about it on a forum Bitcointalk.org. After that, he received a letter from Satoshi asking him to slow down development:

According to Hanesh, Satoshi initially knew that bitcoin mining would turn into an entire industry, but he wanted any user to be able to start mining the first cryptocurrency at the initial stages. Hanesh apologized to Satoshi for his project, but he only advised not to answer more in the topic on the forum.

Later, Hanesh sent Satoshi his code for mining bitcoins on video cards, and he in response provided his own version of the code. According to Hanesh, Satoshi was very concerned about the attack on the Bitcoin network and prepared a response in advance in the form of mining on video accelerators:

According to Hanesh, although Satoshi had several code options for mining the first cryptocurrency on video cards, Hanesh's own code worked better. However, Laszlo noted that Satoshi could deliberately reduce performance in order not to increase the complexity of bitcoin mining too sharply.

Recall that Lazlo Hanesh is one of the first bitcoin enthusiasts. He became the first person to pay with bitcoins for a real product, buying a pizza for 10,000 bitcoins. At the same time, in total, he extracted about 100,000 BTC, half of which went to pizza.
