The Winklevoss Twins

Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss. These two guys are just one big enigma. I can never tell whether I hate them or love them.  I mean they are 6'5" Olympic athletes that that started off rich and then became billionaires, so for the most part, I wouldn't mind if they failed every once in awhile. I will say, they appear to be pretty smart and industrious guys. What I find amazing is that, while their first billion dollar idea didn't pan out, they still became billionaires.

There have been movies (The Social Network) and tons of talk about how Mark Zuckerburg got his start with Facebook.  You can make the argument, that having a great idea and turning a great idea into a billion dollar business are two different things. But, the fact that Facebook paid the Winklevoss twins 65 million dollars for not stealing their social networking idea (ConnectU) idea is a bit of a stretch.

Now, the twins walking away with millions of dollars and a Harvard pedigree, would have been enough for most people to just live out a great life with out much work involved. In fact, that is kinda what it looked like they did, starting a capital management firm in 2012.  Maybe with their Ivy League money and settlement head start, they would have become billionaires over the next few decades building a successful investment firm. That is not how in went down, though. This wasn't just a normal investment firm, in fact their firm bought about 100,000 BTC when it was selling for 120 bucks, soon becoming actual billionaires ( I am counting them together, as their combined worth is over 1 billion.)

So, they have had some rough times since then, their crypto exchange business they started got sued and filed for bankruptcy.   Now, when billionaire backed companies file for bankruptcy, it is not the same as you and I going bankrupt, so they will be ok.

In general, I think these two guys are interesting in that they seem to keep winning despite the fact so many people want them to fail.
