A Little Christmas Thought

When I was a young kid, my usual Christmas would consist of waking up and running around the house barely able to contain myself until my grandparents came over and we could open presents.  After that we would load up our car and spend seven hours driving to another state to visit my cousins and spend the rest of the holidays with them.  A pretty normal Christmas, but, if you  went on a road trip in the 1980s on Christmas, you would remember that nothing was open, other than a few lone gas stations.

Well, that is not exactly true.  Chinese food restaurants were still open. When I think back about Christmas as a young boy, it is not the presents or the decorations or the movies that come to mind first, while I have a sense of all those things and enjoy thinking about them. The thing I remember most is sitting in random Chinese restaurants all along I-75 with my family enjoying a  very non-traditional Christmas meal.  I can even remember specific meals I ordered that happened over 45 years ago, especially the year I got to order the pu pu platter all for myself..

Enjoy the holidays, however you celebrate and take in everything. It may be something that happens that you never considered that you remember fondly for the next 50 years.
