How Could Liquid Coolant Be Important in the Crypto Industry?

- What is Liquid Coolant?

Liquid coolant is part of liquid cooling systems. The purpose of these systems is to reduce the internal temperature of a given device or equipment. The design of these liquid cooling systems and the liquids used as the coolant may vary depending on the application. In the world of liquid cooling systems, liquid coolant would be the sole commodity that is traded.

- Why is Liquid Cooling Important?

There are two popular types of cooling systems that have been discussed for many years in the mainstream media - air cooling and liquid cooling. Air cooling has been known in some systems to be more cost effective in certain applications. This is because there are only three basic elements which are heat sinks, fan blades, and air ducts (depending on the size of the system). On the other hand, liquid cooling systems can be much more complex depending on the application. The main benefit of liquid cooling systems is their wide-range of applicability when compared to air-cooled systems.

- What is Crypto Mining and How Does it Relate to Heat?

One of the most popular aspects of the crypto sphere is the growing crypto mining industry. Certain cryptocurrencies are supported by a process called mining. Mining is an intensive process that requires a large amount of computing power which generates an insane amount of heat. As a result, some mining equipment companies have turned to air cooling systems to balance between cost-effectiveness and maintaining a "decent" hash rate (despite the heat).

- How Does Liquid Coolant Relate to the Crypto Industry?

Air cooling may not always have ideal results because the environment that computers perform under may not always be ideal. For example, let's say that you are a crypto miner. You've purchased an expensive set of high performing mining rigs. You've also rented a medium-sized, window-less room with a small set of vents. If you set up and run your rigs for a week, the room will probably heat up considerably. While you could technically create a large room with a cold nitrogen-assisted air conditioning system, your budget may not be enough to do this. An easier method could be to simply get a liquid-cooled mining rig (if they are out there in the market). No need for expensive rooms. No need for space for special aircon units.

Considering that liquid coolant is the primary component of a liquid-cooled system, this "coolant" would probably be in high demand in the scenario that liquid cooled mining rigs and systems become cost-effective, efficient, and easy to maintain.
